Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate the Utah Archives Month theme of food! Here are some of our favorite moments from October:
Before the emergence of one-stop shop supermarkets, a variety of local grocers, butchers, and bakers in Salt Lake City delivered goods directly to customers’ homes. Ornate billheads give a glimpse into the kinds of food and sundries Utahns were buying at the end of the 19th century. Using billheads found in the Salt Lake County Probate Case Files series, summer intern Taylor Burnette created a new digital exhibit that plots the locations of long-gone grocers across Salt Lake City. We hosted an in-person Scan-and-Share event with the Utah Historical Society where family recipes were scanned to become part of the “Peoples of Utah Revisited” collection.

Although Archives Month is over, the Utah Archives Month website is still live! Explore the food-themed digital exhibits gathered from around the state. If you would like a printed poster (or stickers!) from this year’s campaign, reach out! We’re happy to mail them out.
